Tips for a milk trolley

The milk taxi is a labour-friendly way to give calves milk. Because you produce a larger quantity of milk, it is more consistent in quality, composition and temperature. But make no mistake: a milk taxi or milk mixer also requires a sharp eye. Johan Verdaasdonk, specialist in young cattle, explains what you should pay attention to here.

Is the temperature correct?

The calf’s drinking temperature should be 40-42°C. The mixing temperature in the taxi can therefore vary. In the winter you may need to set it higher than in the summer. Always keep the water temperature below 60°C, otherwise the proteins in milk powder will burn.

Is the concentration correct?

The concentration is always 150 grams of powder in 1 liter. You can easily check this with a refractometer. The mixed milk should have a brix value of 15, then you are at 150 grams of powder.
